30 Days of Cosplay: Day 30
Describe cosplay in three words. No more, no less.
I have to repeat what Meru said since “There’s still time” is our cosplay motto. The quote comes from the game Eternal Sonata and we repeated it back and forth to motivate ourselves as we worked on our Polka and Viola costumes back in 2008. To us it means don’t give up and don’t get too stressed. As long as there’s still time, it can be accomplished.
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 29
What is your favourite cosplay item?
It’s hard to pick, but my Arco plush is probably my favorite cosplay item. I commissioned him from yutakayumi.deviantart.com and she did an amazing job. He’s one of a kind and complements my Viola costume perfectly!
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 28
Where do you work on your cosplays and where do you store them when they’re done?
I have a separate room in our apartment for sewing and working on cosplays, though it also doubles as the guest room. Since I have cats, it’s helpful to be able to shut the door when I’m working on things. I love having my own place to work though, and I have it decorated with inspiration for upcoming projects, pictures of my friends and I cosplaying together, fabric bins, and cute things I like.
When I’m done wearing costumes, I sort them into large, clear plastic containers with labels and store them in a closet. Eventually I can see storage being an issue as I make more and more costumes.
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 27
How many wigs do you own? Which is your favourite?
I currently have about 20 wigs, give or take. I didn’t really realize I had so many until I started counting them up in my head. I keep some of my favorites on a shelf on my wall.
My favorite wigs are my Felicia wig, my Viola wig, and my new two-toned Juvia wig, two of which are pictured above.
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 26
Any unfinished costumes? Will you ever finish them?
I started Jessica from Lunar earlier this year. I keep making a piece here and there, but haven’t committed the time to finish her. She will get done though, it’s just a matter of when.
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 25
The cosplay you put the most effort into
This has to be Miyako from Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. At first glance the costume doesn’t look like much, but I put so much time into it, especially in the hand made trim. I had a total of 48 mitered corners on the trim of the bodice alone. The top has boning and custom made piping and the wig had to be wefted and cut. I also had to do a lot of dye work and hand painting.
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 24
Your most comfortable cosplay and most uncomfortable cosplay
My most comfortable cosplay would probably be my female scout from Team Fortress 2. This was just a quick, easy costume to run around in and it was a lot of fun as well!
Most uncomfortable would be Gurdy from FFXII that I did so long ago. The moogles from 12 are so cute, but they have huge ears and pompoms, which I was set on doing accurately. In the end, it led to a seriously heavy headpiece and a bad headache.
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 23
Your most expensive cosplay
Sometimes it’s better not to think about the cost of cosplay (it adds up quickly!) My most recent costume, Fantasia Gown Juvia, was rather expensive though since it required a massive amount of satin.
30 Days of Cosplay: Day 22
Have you worn cosplay in a regular situation?
I don’t generally wear costumes outside of conventions or photoshoots, but there have been a couple situations where I’ve been with friends and we’ve gone to get food on our way home from a photoshoot. For instance, I’ve been to a yogurt shop dressed as a maid (as seen here with Kamikaze Kiss Cosplay).

Show us your best cosplay derp photo!
Presenting the many derps of Vanille. I seriously have some awesome friends!
